Working on a photoseries on the decay of a holiday/coastal town and the suburb built around it of Sawtell/Toormina.
It seems the only reason for Toormina to exist is because of the costal/holiday town of Sawtell. Sawtell though is now decaying and as unemployment continues to go up I can only wonder about the future of the area.
I was raised in the similar town of Torquay in Victoria and this is almost a veiw into the future. As more people flock to the postcard towns the resulting urbanization and lack of room for expansion leaves the old retirement dreamland to die with the people that live there.
I moved to the area thinking it was the costal town but the lack of employment has left me on centrelink payments similar to those of the retirees that are left here. In a way this has made me assimilate into the area and put me in an interesting mindset of how to document this, from the point of view of those who have watched the town change around them.
There will be much more photos and writing on this to come as I explore more

Released my EP (ITS OK MAN)
After months of learning and stuffing about, creating shit and experimenting in general I have finally finished some songs that I am actually happy with!
I have been sitting on this for a long time and it is ready to be properly released.
It’s all up on Myspace (eeww) but I will be making a proper website in the near future to share all my artistic endeavors.

Ever since I left University and placed myself in the ‘real world’ I’ve been experiencing the closest thing I’ve ever had to a spiritual dilemma. A long and drawn out stint of unemployment has left me stumped as to how I can actually make a meaningful contribution to the world. All my aspirations in the art world have been slowly drained as I now struggle to find even the most basic of work. Rejected not only from the art that I love but from a Night Fill job at Woolworths.
I have been thinking too much about our culture and our society and it saddens me. We are not seen on an individual level to the point where it is hard to truly look at ourselves in that way, rather, where is my place in this money driven society. There is no place for actual self reflection as we have to fit our persona into categories. We are taught to absorb, not think. Contribution is measured on how it adds to capitalism Am I creating a product that people can use? Will it work on the new iPhone?! This whole thing is driving me to insane frustration.
I want to create art and music, that is all. For all I could care I would be homeless. I want to contribute in a real way. Why should the goal of my life be to make money, spend it, die and hope someone looks at my tombstone and says “yeah… he was rich”.
I am living in a city void of subculture, void of people wanting to change. Our generation is being forced to mold into the older generations backbone in order to keep the human society THEY hold dear upright.
Where is our cultural revolution? When are we going to actually change something and add to the human drama ourselves? We need more than a Facebook ‘like’ campaign.
Guess I should just sit back and wait for it to happen…. Unemployed and achieving nothing.
